|$0 My Goal: $2,501.00|
Founded in 2008, Pelotonia was established with the objective to fund life-saving cancer research. Focused on a community of passionate fundraisers and centered around a three-day experience of cycling, entertainment, and volunteerism, the Pelotonia community has raised more than $158 million for high-risk, high-reward cancer research. Last year, 8,022 Riders from 39 states and 7 countries participated along with 3,576 Virtual Riders and 3,044 Volunteers. Please join me in supporting this cause, where 100% of your donation will go directly towards cancer research at The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center-James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Institute.
I have been connected to cancer for a long time, both personally and professionally. My first experience was early in my life as the only grandfather that I had known died slowly from cancer. Later, cancer would claim my father. Cancer took the two most prominent male family members from me.
Professionally, I was a radiologist. Many people think that radiologists sit in dark rooms and look at images on film or a monitor and have little contact with patients. That is true for some, but not for all. Some of us perform procedures on/for our patients and those procedures include biopsies. I have biopsied cancer in breasts, livers, lungs, lymph nodes, prostates... no need to create an exhaustive list of organs, but you get the point-I have had extensive professional contact with people who have cancer. I was often the first person that many of them would ask "Do I have cancer?". I often struggled with an adequate response to that question.
Those personal and professional experiences have motivated me to participate in Pelotonia 2018 and now in 2019 and to choose a challenging goal of cycling 100 miles on day 1 and 35 miles on day 2 alongside Terri, although that challenge pales in comparison to the challenges faced by those with any of the many forms of cancer. Please help me to raise money toward my goal and toward curing as many forms of cancer as possible. Thank you for your support.
