   Congrats! Keep going!

I am grateful for everything that Pelotonia has done for our community and for me. This event is responsible for motivating thousands of cyclists in Central Ohio to unite in the cause of eradicating cancer. Over the past 11 years, those of us who have rediscovered the joy of biking have helped raise over $184 million to fund cancer research. But we have also benefitted in so many ways-we've improved our fitness, made countless new friends, and have had the opportunity to participate in one of the most remarkable feel-good events you can imagine. Pelotonia is a transformational event, and I can't wait for the weekend of August 2nd!

But despite all of the positive energy and excitement that Pelotonia brings, I cannot lose sight of the reason I was drawn to it in the first place...Breast cancer took my grandmother, my mother-in-law while she was still in her 40s, and a lifelong friend who was in her 30s. And lung cancer also took my stepmother and cousin at early ages. And sadly my brother-in-law passed away last year after defying the odds and surviving his war with stage IV colon cancer for 5 1/2 years when he was originally told he only had 6 months.

The last few years have been particularly difficult for my cycling group. Three years ago, the friend who re-introduced me to cycling lost his battle with esophageal cancer, and two years ago year another member of our riding group died from complications from his plasma cell leukemia  treatment only two weeks after diagnosis.

On a positive note, my wife is a carrier of the breast cancer gene and was a pioneering patient in genetic research and aggressive preventative care more than two decades ago-long before Angelina Jolie made it fashionable. As a result of that aggressive course of action, she has remained cancer free for decades. And two of my closest friends are beating Prostate Cancer.

There's way too much cancer everywhere, and it feels great to be a part of something that is making real strides to eradicate this devastating disease.
