|$0 My Goal: $5,000.00|
On May 3rd of 2018, my friend Len was diagnosed with Stage IV Metastatic Cancer. After a few tests it was determined that he only had weeks, maybe month(s) remaining. Early in the morning on May 22nd he was gone.
Over the past several years, both my Aunt Nancy and Uncle Greg have successfully battled various forms of Cancer.
Family members, the husband of a friend, co-workers, peers, fellow church members...most of us know someone who has fought and beat this terrible disease. Unfortunately, far too many of us knew someone who didn't. We must stop this disease before it's too late.
That is why I ride. We need to improve screenings and early detection so that treatments can be implemented early enough to make a difference. With early detection, a woman might still have her husband, sons might still have their father, sisters would still have their brother, parents might still have their son and I might still have my friend. Len was 48 years old.
“I have to remind myself that some birds aren't meant to be caged. Their feathers are just too bright. And when they fly away, the part of you that knows it was a sin to lock them up DOES rejoice. But still, the place you live in is that much more drab and empty that they're gone. I guess I just miss my friend.”
