Cancer has become very personal not just to me and my wife and family, but probably to you too. I hear more and more each month of someone who is battling this disease, so it's a fight we're all in together.  Pelotonia gives us a place to fight from together as a community toward the cure for cancer, so thank you for participating with me.

Since we've had our son, Joshua Daniel, on 12/5/2018, my desire is even greater that a cure will be found yet in his youth.  Having him has changed our perspective even further.

We lost my brother, Dan, 4/2016 to liver cancer, and Meredith's Mom, Cindi, 8/2017 - shortly after Meredith's first Pelotonia - to breast cancer that spread to her bones and lungs. My Dad passed primarily from liver and lung cancer as well.  My brother-in-law, Al, passed fall 2018 from Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia. We have the goodness of a cancer survivor in our family with my cousin, Lucy.

Dan, I know, would fight for and against what his heart believed in, and he worked passionately to lift up those that he knew were in need.  As a fireman and EMT/EMT Instructor he would come beside people in their dire times, and he would help them begin to heal, and he loved and excelled at teaching others how to do the same.

One of the many ways my brother inspires me (and many others) is to be and do with passion whatever I choose to be in or around.  I choose to participate in Pelotonia because it is the most effective way to play an active part in the fight against cancer, without being stagnant, as cancer is not stagnant.  I think most of us have the sense of wanting to stand up for what we want to change, and as a community Pelotonia brings us together and gives us a common platform to fight from.

The photo is Dan at a celebration of his life about 6 weeks before he passed, and the joy of being with his lifetime friends is so evident on his face...

Pelotonia is a wonderful organization, finding underwriters to ensure that 100% of our dollars raised go directly to Ohio State's James Cancer Research Hospital for the depth of research to find The Cure.  Thank you for supporting my goal to surpass $2,000 raised this year, and especially for also playing a part in the bigger goal.  Your support is appreciated more than Meredith and I can say. Thank you!
