|Congrats! Keep going!|
This is my 3rd time riding in Pelotonia but my first time riding as a cancer survivor.
While I am riding in memory of my stepdad Jim Richardson who lost his battle with cancer in 2008, and I'm riding for my family and friends who've survived cancer and/or who've lost people they cherish to this complicated disease..... This year, I am mostly riding to celebrate my own life and my personal cancer journey.
As many of you know, I spent the last couple of years navigating my way through a Thyroid Cancer diagnosis. While it's among the more favorable cancers to have, I cannot begin to describe how challenging it was spending two+ years feeling chronically unwell. It was undoubtedbly the most complicated and scary few years of my life, and having Thyroid Cancer not only impacted me personally, it also took its toll on Chad and Margot, our parents, my brother Trey, and all of those who love me. BUT... I'm happy to report that after two neck surgeries and RAI (radiation) in 2017 & 2018, I now in full remission as of March, 2019!
I truly owe a debt of gratitude to the incredible team who cared for me at The James Cancer Center. From the moment I transferred my care to OSU/The James, I felt confident in my recovery and knew I'd get through this difficult time. Everyone on my care team - from my incredible Endocronologist Dr Endo, to my Oncology ENT surgeon Dr Agrawal, to Zach and the countless nurses who were invested in my wellness - played a role in my recovery. Every one of them made me feel important and I will never be able to express my thanks for their role in my path to remission.
Riding in Pelotonia in 2019, is a small step toward expressing my thanks for the important work being done everyday at OSU / The James Comprehensive Cancer Center.
I hope you'll consider supporting my ride this year and in doing so help OSU and The James in their valient effort to save lives and find cures for this disease.
