|Congrats! Keep going!|
This is my fifth year riding Pelotonia in support of cancer research at the James. About 4 years ago, my reason, my story, for riding changed. In November of 2015 I was diagnosed with Ocular Melanoma in my right eye. A "mole" that had grown behind my eye was causing my retina to detach and causing vision loss. In December I was admitted to the James for 4 days to recieve radiation treatment, or brachytherapy, to shrink the tumor. My surgeon also performed an external teletherapy or beam proton therapy to ensure we were covering all of our bases. These treatments have caused vision loss in my right eye and this is something I continue to overcome each day. I am happy to report that as of Mary 2018 the tumor continues to shrink and things are looking good thanks to the wonderful doctors and staff at The James. I regularly see a dermatologist checking my skin for melanoma, and my oncologist every 6 months to review MRI scans and overall health.
I ride becuase not everyone gets a chance to tell their story. I ride because I am Living Proof and I have seen firsthand where your donation goes. Please help support this great cause. Thank you!
