Why do I ride in the Pelotonia? The easy answer is that I ride to find a cure for cancer.
Unfortunately, the simple answer does not do justice to why I truly ride each year. I believe that cancer is something that we all despise, something that we all wish did not exist, however, once cancer has had its filthy grip on people who you truly care about then you begin to understand just how important it is to find a cure. Working at the James Cancer Center puts the face of cancer front and center each and every day. Of course, most of the people that come through the James are perfect strangers to me. They are people that you see hurting and fighting this disease, giving every thing they physically and mentally have so that they may have the chance to continue living. You watch their families trying to be strong for them, trying to put on a smile so that those battling this atrocious disease can have a little extra strength to continue fighting, but inside you know that it is killing those family members too.
If this, in and of itself, was not enough to push my desire to ride then the personal ramifications of the disease certainly has been. I watched my brother-in-law fight his own battle with cancer. I have witnesses the effects that it has had on him and it has fueled my desire to help find the cure, to rid the world of this dreadful disease.
We can do this! We can find a cure and we can make it so that others do not have to be affected by this disease. I am riding for those who have lost their battle to cancer, I am riding for those who are currently battling cancer, I am riding for my friends and family that have fought this courageous fight, and most importantly, I am riding to cure the world of cancer.
Any donation can help make a cancer-free world a reality. Please believe in the difference you can make this year and consider donating to my Pelotonia, consider donating to this ride that will help end cancer.
