Cancer ended the earthly lives of two of my very dear uncles, Kenneth Welch and George Merritt, and my father in-law, Jim Henderson. While cancer claimed their bodies, it could not lay claim on their spirits. As Uncle Ken said, "I would rather have a sick body and a healthy soul than a healthy body and a sick soul." Today, they walk in beauty, filled with the joy of a world without sickness or dying. And yet, I believe they would encourage me and all of us to do whatever we can to create a world without cancer. That is the mission of Pelotonia.
I am riding in memory of these men, whose lives gave me such great inspiration. I am also riding to give hope to those who are suffering with this disease, so that I can use my health to alleviate their sickness. I am also riding so that my children may see the day when cancer is a part of history and not a part of their futures.
To healthy bodies and souls...
