|$0 My Commitment: $3,000.00|
This is my first year riding in Pelotonia, and while I’m no stranger to long bike rides this important cause is personal. One of my heroes – my Uncle John - is fighting prostate cancer. I need your help in the battle to cure not only this form of cancer, but all of them.
That’s why I’ve signed up to ride an excessively long 200 miles over 2 days and to raise $3,000 (hopefully more!) for the James and Solove Cancer Research Institute. 100% of the money that you donate will go to life-saving cancer research to help people like my Uncle John live long, happy adventure-filled lives.
My Uncle John is the inspiration for my ride, and also my arrow – adventure! When I was a kid, he bought me my first bug catching kit, taught me how to ride a bike, sent me Wildlife Fact Files and took me up in his small two-seater airplane on the weekends so that I could see the world from a different point of view. We would read National Geographic magazines and find places on the globe that we wanted to travel to. He always encouraged whatever I wanted to learn about, and a few years ago we even drove across South Africa together, finding lions and elephants and penguins and getting lost on back roads with no reception. We’re racing to see who can hit every continent first, and I’m still getting not-so-subtle flyers for pilot school. Nothing is stopping his spirit, and if he can make plans to go to Patagonia while dealing with this terrible disease, I can certainly go play bikes over a weekend to help him out.
Almost everyone has been affected by cancer in some form – I have lost people dear to me to this awful disease. I’m asking you to help me end it. Every dollar - be it Five or Five Hundred – goes directly to the life-saving research at The James. The impact is real, and you can read more about it here.
