2019 Pelotonia Cancer Ride – August 2 / 4, 2019
I’m excited to share with you that I’ve committed to ride in Pelotonia for my ninth year and to raise funds for cancer research!
Founded in 2008, Pelotonia was established with the objective to fund life-saving cancer research. Focused on a community of passionate fundraisers and centered around a three-day experience of cycling, entertainment, and volunteerism, the Pelotonia community has raised nearly $200 million. Thanks to its generous funding partners, Pelotonia can direct 100% of every donation to cancer research at The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center-James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Institute.
Pelotonia is an extraordinary experience for everyone who participates, but it's so much more than just an event. The Pelotonia community is all about people coming together and making great things happen. It is about hope for those battling cancer and about making tangible progress toward eradicating this disease for future generations. Together, we are making meaningful impact. So far this year, we have 7,362 Riders raising over $10 million. For more information about the groundbreaking advances funded by Pelotonia, check out http://pelotonia.org/about/impact/.

I started riding this great event in 2011 as my employer, New World Van Lines, has donated transportation services for the bikes in this ride since 2009; each year brings more meaning to me; in 2012, I began riding for Kerry Beckett Kalous (Suzy), a close relative. Suzy lost a long and hard fought battle with ovarian cancer & passed away on Sept. 24, 2015; Suzy never gave up hope, she was a fighter until the end. She was an inspiration to all that knew and loved her. It will be my honor to continue to ride in her memory. I have lost one friend over the past year due to cancer but have one great survivor story; One of my college roommates is going on year number three with lung cancer and is now in remission after a long battle with many ups and downs; All his friends gave him 100% support, which kept him mentally strong to continue the fight until a new miracle drug named Alecensa came his way and started his tract towards remission; Cancer doctors can barely keep up with all the new treatments being discovered due to events like Pelotonia! One Goal – End Cancer
As I ride the 200 miles over two days, I continuously think of all the people I have known that are no longer with us due to cancer & of all my great friends that donate to this cause. I can't thank you enough and please remember no donation is too small and no donation is too large. The ride is this weekend but you can donate up until October 4th.
As I have said in previous years, I will ride this great ride until I am no longer physically able to; It was really close again this year with me having my hip replaced April of 2017, major foot surgery February of 2018 & back surgery this past January. I know I can ride better than I can walk! I made the final decision to ride yesterday and always looking for anyone that wants to join me in this great event. I belong to a team peloton named Simply Community and I just cannot say enough how great my 187 teammates are (18 out of state)! Our team alone has raised over $2 million in the past 11 years (for me with your help, I am close to $30 thousand in 9 years);
Thank you for supporting my efforts and helping save lives!
