|Congrats! Keep going!|
Why do I ride? Let's see...I ride because of the camaraderie of the biking community. I ride because when I am on my bike, I think of nothing else other than the beautiful country side that I get to see and take in when on my bike. I ride because I appreciate the sport and the hard work that it takes to strengthen yourself and meet and exceed your goals.
Oh yeah...I ride for people like Horton (yes just like the elephant, as he told me). Horton has been out to cheer us on ever since the ride has taken us past his home. Story goes, the first time he was there, he had told his wife he was going to their land to do some work. Though, instead, as you can see, he was there to cheer us on and inspire us.
I recall seeing Horton for the first time and instantly being brought to tears. What if that was my wife? <insert tears> You see Horton about 80 miles into the ride. At this point, we are not as fresh as we started as the route has become quite hilly. After stopping to talk with Horton though, you are as fresh as when you started and ready to tackle the last 20 miles.
As you stop to shake his hand and more than likely give him a hug, you hear about Horton's wife. She was diagnosed with cancer a few years ago. Upon arriving at the The James Cancer Research Center, she was told that her treatment was a new, and very successful, treatment that was made available by the funds of Pelotonia.
Horton continues to let you know that she is doing well and obviously appreciates the reason why we ride....For one goal...to end cancer.
Please, help me help more people like Horton. You can and it is easy, I promise. You can do it from your couch if you would like, as long as you have your credit card with you. Just click on the "Donate to my ride" button and away you go.
You can donate as much as you would like and every penny goes to help fund life saving treatments and research, just like the one that saved Horton's wife.
P.S. - I love you Marissa
